Why are processed meats dangerous ?
Processed meats are those preserved by smoking, curing or salting, or the addition of chemical preservatives. This includes bacon, ham, pastrami, salami, pepperoni, hot dogs, some sausages and hamburgers (if they have been preserved with salt or chemical additives) and more
A chemical carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite is used in processed meats which can lead to cancer and other diseases and bad health. sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is another dangerous additive that you need to keep an eye out for in meats or processed foods
Try to avoid processed meats such as bacon, ham, salami, corned beef and some sausages
Any meat that contains MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, preservatives, artificial flavor or artificial color is harmful to health
In the late 1970′s in the US an attempt to ban sodium nitrite was made but was overridden by the meat industry as the corporations that dominate American food and agricultural interests hold tremendous influence over the FDA and USDA
There is evidence that natural vitamin C found in citrus fruits and exotic berries (like camu camu) helps prevent the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines, but you would rather avoid eating processed meats altogether
What meats are safe?
"uncured" varieties that contain NO nitrates
organic meats that are grass-fed or free-range
Products that are 100% beef, 100% chicken
